The charming little mountain village of Imlil is a must-see for all hikers wishing to tackle the 4,167-meter (13,800 ft) summit of Mount Toubkal, the second highest peak in Africa after Kilimanjaro. Located 64 km (40 mi) from Marrakech, Imlil is also a gateway to the superb Toubkal National Park.
After crossing the Asni Gorge, a picturesque village known for its weekly Saturday souk, the road continues along a verdant valley where the mountains, impressive natural bastions, play with colors. Nestled mid-slope are Berber villages with mud houses surrounded by terraced crops. Each village is nestled against the foothills of the Atlas Mountains, built in tiers. A succession of highly varied landscapes and lush vegetation.
A mule ride to the village of Aremd is planned to admire the panoramic view of the Imlil valley and that of Toubkal… The American film « Seven years in Tibet » was filmed in this region…
