Essaouira was discovered by the Phoenicians, who settled there. It was later conquered by Rome and Portugal. Before the end of the 15th century, the Portuguese had built the commercial and military port of Mogador (present-day Essaouira). This port is located at the foot of the city walls.
From the terrace of the North Bastion, you have access to the marquetry district where the best craftsmen work with cedar. Leaving the Skala, we follow Derb Laalouj Street to the Sidi Mohammed Ben Mohammed Ben Abdallah Museum, where there is a collection of musical instruments for local Andalusian songs, weapons, costumes, etc. Located in the north of the city is the Mellah, the Jewish quarter that intersects the traditional Mohammed Zerktouni Street. A market borders it and extends to Bab Doukkala…
Fish lunch (Essaouira specialties) in a seaside restaurant.
Along the way, we will pass through many fields of Argan trees, trees that produce the nuts that will be used to make the famous Argan oil used in cooking as well as cosmetics. You will have the chance to see goats perched on the Argan trees… And visit a real women’s cooperative that produces real Argan oil.
